Caribbean gin company launches Blue Ocean Edition Gin to raise awareness on World Oceans Day 2020

Today, The Caribbean Gin Co., Blue Light Distillery, a Grenada based company, established in 2018, launches its Blue Light Caribbean Gin live streamed across social media channels from onboard a ship in the Caribbean waters, to celebrate World Oceans Day.

In 2020, World Oceans Day is calling on world leaders to safeguard at least 30% of our ocean through a network of highly protected areas by 2030 (30×30). In support of 30×30, The Caribbean Gin Co, is retrieving the showcase-batch of “ocean rested” blue gin from a currently underwater barrel. A social media live stream will show the surfacing of the product to announce its launch. Video footage of the underwater barrel and surrounding sea life will be used to highlight the realities faced by coral reefs.

Blue Light Distillery’s second product to launch across the Caribbean and available in the US and UK markets later this year, is a naturally coloured blue gin.

The team at Blue Light Distillery has been working on this product for three months. In line with the environmental benefits the recent pandemic has brought about, the company is looking to ramp up and maintain this momentum across the Caribbean, with 10% of sales from each bottle going to:

  • Grand Anse Artificial Reef Project (GAARP)
  • True Blue Bay Boutique Resort ‘Green Up Grenada’
  • Promoting awareness and education about reef conservation

The Caribbean is home to some of the world’s most popular beaches and reefs. Around 30 million tourists visit the Caribbean Islands annually. However, over the last 50 years 80% of the Caribbean coral reefs have been lost, both to human and natural causes.

Aaron Salyer, Coastal Engineer and co-founder of The Blue Light Distillery, says: “This isn’t just a great Gin, we’re are a team of people with a passion for the ocean. Our aim here is to encourage greater awareness, locally and internationally, about the importance of protecting the Caribbean coral reefs. Our goal was to bottle the Caribbean dream and share that with the world. In return, consumers of our product will expand our reach to protect more and more ocean environments. Keep an eye on our website to see the project details and how consumers can get more involved.”
